Akbar Y Ansari
Baltimore resident and Pakistani-American
Akbar Ansari is a Senior Manager with Proctor
& Gamble Cosmetics, Maryland. With a Masters
degree in Mechanical Design from Clarkson University,
NY and a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering
from NED University of Engg & Technology,
Karachi. He is a Certified Packaging Professional
and a Technical Package Design Engineer also.
He is actively involved in several volunteer
organizations including United Way, Habitat for
Humanity Chesapeake chapter, Meals on Wheels,
etc. He has been appointed by Governor to Maryland
Advisory Commission on Manufacturing Competitiveness.Mr.
Ansari is also the Vice President of US-based
Literacy Program in Developing Countries (LPIDC),
a non-profit organization which takes a unique
approach to poverty alleviation in underdeveloped
countries by motivating unemployed individuals
to self-run educational centers on self-employment
basis. All these for only $2 a day per center.
Mr. Ansari is also President of Maryland based
Baltimore County Muslim Council (BCMC), a non-profit
Muslim organization aimed at Muslim activism in
political and social systems in Maryland.Mr. Ansari's
past activities include student government as
President of the Student Union, NED University
of Engg & Technology, Karachi. There, he excelled
in organizing large functions and programs both
social and cultural. Mr Mr. Ansari was also one
of the driving forces behind Progressive Students
Front, a NED based students' political organization.
