Dear Fellow NEDian,
We'd like to invite you to the Third Annual Convention
of NEDians, which we're organizing in the heart
of Silicon Valley on September 8th, 2007. The
theme this year is to "Roll Back Time" and celebrate
the Heritage, the Achievements and the Future
Promise of our institution and our fellow alumni.
The alumni group that has taken up this initiative
has held similar events working with the NEDian
communities in Houston in 2005 and the New Jersey/New
York area last year. This year, a range of prominent
members of the Silicon Valley community are involved,
including several CEOs , senior executives, members
of academia and entrepreneurs, as well as many
more recent graduates of NED. Mazhar Ali, the
actor and artiste, himself an NEDian (did you
know that?), has volunteered to be Master of Ceremonies.
The event will include a full-day program rediscovering
the rich heritage of NED, celebrating the achievements
of NEDians in Silicon Valley and across the world
today, and looking to the future with an eye on
how to build a strong community. We're looking
forward to a keynote speech, panel discussions,
and some serious conversations about our community
and the institution we hail from.
In the evening, there will be a banquet, with
a sit-down dinner, and great entertainment. From
the beatniks of the 70s, to the dreamers of the
80s, the doers of the 90s, and the professors,
entrepreneurs, executives and capitalists of today--we'll
have them all there. And we hope you'll be there,
too!
Your support and involvement will help make this
a successful event and build a strong community
that benefits us all.
In the next few days and weeks, we'll send out
details and information about registration and
travel. If you want to take the initiative and
get involved--or just follow up actively--please
visit our website and get in touch with us at:

Remember to check back often for updates! We're
planning a blog and we're looking forward to your
contributions and comments.
Look forward to seeing you in San Jose on the
8th of September!
Zabardasth,
Zabardasth!

A
Bit of History
NED was founded as the Prince of Wales Engineering
College with donations from the citizens of Karachi
to commemorate the visit of the Prince of Wales
in 1921. The institution was renamed NED Engineering
College in 1924, in memory of Nadirshaw Edulji
Dinshaw, a well known philanthropist, whose heirs
made substantial donations for its development
on the first anniversary of his death. The college
was affiliated first with Sindh University and
then, after independence, with Karachi University.
In 1975, thirty years ago this year, moved to
its present campus, and two years later it received
its charter as an independent university and was
renamed NED University of Engineering and Technology.
